Pet Odor Rug Cleaning in Fairhaven & North Easton
Spraying and steaming only reach the top of the pile. Urine soaks into the backing, where it keeps smelling every time the air turns humid. We bring your rug into our cleaning plant and wash the odor out at the source, without harming its fibers or dyes.
Why the smell keeps coming back
A single accident travels down through the pile, into the foundation, and often onto the pad and floor underneath. Store bought sprays cover the top layer and leave the rest behind. That's why the rug seems fine for a week, then smells again.
Where you see the stain. Surface cleaners and steam machines mostly stop here.
The woven backing soaks up urine like a sponge and holds it out of reach.
As urine dries it leaves crystals behind. They don't smell much until they get damp again.
Bacteria feed on what's left and release the sharp ammonia smell pet owners know too well.
The humidity test
Dried urine salts are hygroscopic, which means they pull moisture straight out of the air. On a dry winter day they sit quietly in the fibers. When a humid New England summer rolls in, the salts absorb that moisture, the bacteria wake back up, and the odor returns as if the accident just happened.
If your rug only smells on rainy or humid days, that's a strong sign the urine is still embedded deep in the rug. It needs a full wash and rinse to remove it, not another layer of deodorizer.
Try it: drag the slider to raise the humidity and watch hidden spots reappear.
Inside our cleaning plant
Every rug comes to our facility, where it gets a full wash that simply can't be done on your living room floor. Each step is adjusted to your rug's fiber, dyes, and how far the odor has spread.
We identify the fiber, test dyes for colorfastness, and note any wear before cleaning begins.
We locate every contaminated area, including spots you can't see, so nothing gets missed.
Vibration shakes loose the dry soil, hair, and grit packed deep in the foundation.
A rug safe enzyme treatment breaks down the urine and the bacteria feeding on it.
Affected areas are flushed all the way through so urine salts are carried out of the backing.
The whole rug is hand washed with fiber safe, non toxic cleaners matched to its material.
We rinse until the water runs clear, removing loosened residue and cleaning solution.
Brightening restores vibrance to colors dulled by soil and old stains.
Rugs dry fully in a controlled setting, which prevents mildew and lingering dampness.
We groom the pile and fringe, then check the rug again before it's wrapped for delivery.
Highlighted steps focus on pet odor removal. Repairs, re fringing, moth treatment, and fiber protector are available on request.
Common situations we handle
Whether it was one accident or years of a senior dog's habits, we assess the rug first and tell you honestly what to expect.
Pets return to areas that still smell to them. Removing the odor fully helps break the cycle.
A classic sign of embedded urine salts reacting to humidity, as shown above.
Natural fibers and delicate dyes need careful testing. We never use harsh chemicals that can bleed colors.
Moved the couch and found a spot? Older accidents can still be treated once we see the rug.
Freshen rugs before a home sale, a move, or bringing a new pet home.
No need to haul it in. We pick up and deliver, so big rugs are no problem.

I've had many rugs cleaned at the Rug Resort the past couple of years. They do a wonderful job at a reasonable price. In the past I've taken my Oriental rugs to Braintree for cleaning, but decided to try Rug Resort and have been sending rugs there ever since. I'm thrilled they are so close by and will pick up and deliver if I need to have a room-sized rug cleaned!Posted on Google![]()

Fast friendly service. TRR did a great job on our rug. I would recommend them and will certainly use them again.
Home sprays help with fresh, small accidents. Once urine has reached the foundation or pad, a spray can't rinse it back out. The salts stay behind and the smell returns when the air gets humid. A full wash and flush in our plant removes what a spray leaves behind.
Dried urine leaves salt crystals that absorb moisture from the air. When humidity rises they dampen, bacteria become active again, and the odor comes back. It usually means urine is still embedded deep in the rug.
